Weaning babies

New Kit
Hi
This is my first post here. This is a question regarding my 9 week old baby rabbits (x7!) They are still feeding from their mother... should they be? They eat hay, pellets, grass and veggies and everything else, but at night they are still feeding.
Has anyone got any opinions/experience of this... when should they stop, and how do i get them to stop!! Or should I just leave them and see what happens?
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure about this as I've never had a bun with babies, but I just wanted to say welcome  Hopefully someone who can help will be along in a bit :)

Erm, Mum tends to start weaning at around 3 weeks and they are often on just solids by 5/6 weeks. Its around this time that mums milk normally dries up....have you witnessed them suckling? Is she certainly still producing milk?

Also what age are you planning on seperating them from mum?

My babies stopped feeding from mum at about 6 weeks. I think you'll just have to seperate them from Mum (put Mum in another hutch, leave babies in their existing hutch). The boys will be able to impregnate mum very soon (about 12 weeks) so they really need to be split asap.

Hope this helps.

They no longer need their mothers milk, but they could still be suckling her for comfort or whatever:lol:
The breeders I know seperate bunnies from their mom when they are 8 weeks, or 6, then leave them in the same cage till they are 8. They're usually rehomed at 8 weeks.

They are definitely still suckling, I see them every night. There is definitely milk there too.
I'll post a separate thread about their living situation as I'd appreciate some advice!

You could think about leaving one female baby with Mum and then the milk flow would slowly stop. It would reduce Mums chances of getting mastitis (sp?)
